WORK WEEK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (on call rotation evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provide leadership, training, and support to the district in school safety and crisis response, specifically crisis preparedness and response, suicide prevention and intervention, and behavioral threat assessment. Support district administration and school staff in further implementing consistent systems of crisis preparedness and response, including programs that address student and staff safety, acute crisis intervention, barriers to learning, student behavior and mental health issues. Provide professional development and technical support in implementing various related processes and systems.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of school safety and crisis intervention response, planning and coordination;

  • Considerable knowledge of current local, state, national, and global trends in school crisis prevention and intervention, behavioral threat assessment and management, and suicide intervention and prevention;

  • Considerable knowledge of issues/trends in comprehensive school safety planning;

  • Considerable knowledge of program evaluation to support continuous improvement;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, attorneys, parents, and the public.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, school psychology or a relevant teaching field;

  • Three to five years of experience in school safety and crisis response or related work with children and adolescents.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License as a school counselor, school social worker, or school psychologist;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold certification as a PREPaRE Trainer (Prevent, Reaffirm, Evaluate, Provide and Respond, Examine);

  • Training in current best practice in Suicide in Schools and Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management;

  • Experience supporting, training, and coaching schools in managing crisis events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the implementation of the PREPaRE crisis preparedness and response model.

  • Assists in the coordination and implementation of the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of operational guidelines in the areas of school crisis response, suicide risk assessment, and behavioral threat assessment and management.

  • Interprets and implements district crisis response and related policies.

  • Assists in the creation and development of area/regional crisis response teams.

  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and providing professional learning and training for staff and CaSS personnel in suicide risk management, school crisis prevention and intervention, and behavioral threat assessment and management.

  • Facilitates and plans refresher trainings for targeted staff.

  • Provides ongoing training to area/regional crisis response teams.

  • Provides consultation and monitor implementation of crisis response systems and supports at the school level.

  • Provides consultation and support to principals, school-based crisis teams, and other stakeholders.
