The Credit Risk Review Officer II independently monitors credit risk trends within assigned commercial lending risk segments, attends relevant meetings, and develops and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders responsible for credit approval. This position reports to a Credit Risk & Review Group Senior Manager or Director and is located in either Scottsdale, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, San Jose, CA, San Diego, CA, Los Angeles, CA, or Dallas, TX.Credit Risk & Review Group is an independent credit assurance and advisory team which reports functionally to the Directors’ Risk Committee of the Board of Western Alliance Bancorporation and administratively to the Chief Risk Officer. The team’s mission is to help collaboratively ensure the financial soundness of Western Alliance Bank by independently identifying, assessing, and escalating credit risk to the Board of Directors, banking regulators, and other key stakeholders.
This is a dual role position responsible for,
1) Performing tasks that increase the data-driven operational successes of the department.
The Credit Risk Review Officer II will perform activities that develops analysis and reporting tools to evaluate and provide oversight of the bank’s Concentration and Counterparty activities, controls, and reporting, primarily the bank’s peer bank comparison assessments.
2) Executing quarterly continuous credit file examination of assigned reviewable units or risk segments.
The Credit Risk Review Officer II will perform activities that evaluate commercial loan transactions and perform assessments of underwriting and portfolio management to independently provide feedback on the adequacy of underwriting analyses, accuracy and timeliness of risk grading decisions, appropriateness of credit mitigation actions, and the effectiveness of the credit management process and key controls supporting credit quality.
- Reports primarily to the Credit Risk Management Review Director and secondarily to the Internal Credit Risk Review Assurance Director.
- As part of 2LOD Oversight functions, this role executes tasks, mostly quarterly, that increases the data-driven operational successes of the department, using tools such as SQL, Excel, Tableau, Capital IQ, and Power Point within Credit Risk & Review’s (CR&R) Concentration and Counterparty 2LOD oversight function.
- Creates data visualizations (dashboards and reports) as the department sees fit, that are easy-to-read and insightful.
- Assists in performance and completion of special projects related to data analysis as may be assigned by CR&R Team Leaders on an ad hoc basis.
- Executes certain departmental administrative functions and reporting.
- As part of Internal Credit Risk Review, this role participates in continuous quarterly credit file testing activities and scheduled periodic loan review engagements. Executes quarterly analyses of the credit quality trends of the loan portfolios of assigned reviewable units or risk segments.
- Reviews all pertinent credit and financial information, including business and personal financial statements, spreadsheets, cash flow analyses, and other sources, as applicable. Properly assess borrower risk profiles and risk grades of each loan/lending relationship reviewed. Capable of analyzing complex lending relationships.
- Performs proper risk-based sampling techniques for scoping continuous file reviews and periodic reviews; determines the need for expanding scope and adjusting exam procedures, as appropriate.
- Guides less experienced reviewers in determining the accuracy of assigned risk ratings and analyzing borrower risk attributes and risk factors.
- Analyzes loan reporting and tracking systems and prepares appropriate comments within Credit Risk & Review reports.
- Properly evaluates changes or weaknesses within Credit Administration processes or policies.
- Maintains a working knowledge of a variety of industries and specialty lines of business (e.g., commercial real estate, equipment leasing, mortgage warehouse lending, gaming, technology, life sciences, HOA, franchise lending, sponsor finance, leveraged lending, etc.).
- Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements and expectations pertaining to credit risk management.
- Ensures consistent application of enterprise-wide Credit Policy, as well as Credit Risk & Review Policies and Procedures.
