The Senior Director, Exploration will identify new technology and companies that complement or enhance existing Edwards' businesses or technology portfolio. This highly collaborative role will partner with other subject matter experts and cross functional teams to advance break through external innovation based on value proposition, feasibility of new therapeutic approach, and clinical evidence. This strategic role will provide clinical and technical guidance to drive the transformative innovation portfolio for the future of the organization, with the goal of transforming the standard of care for patients with structural heart disease. The Senior Director will provide technical and clinical expertise in the identification of new and/or early-stage technologies within the Advanced Technology Business Unit.
 

How you’ll make an impact:
• Develop and plan enterprise-level technology focused sourcing projects and activities including creating a pipeline of successful products and/or projects and facilitating cross-technology review with cross-functional and R&D teams for assigned BU(s) with accountability for successful completion of all deliverables
• Partner with Business Development Execution team (e.g, Corporate Development) to transition opportunity to potential partners including the evaluation of technology due diligence and monitoring their continuing development and evolution to determine when investment is advisable
• Conduct initial high level business fit and scientific evaluation of potential opportunities to determine if they are worthy of further, detailed functional evaluation while developing strong relationships with external partners
• Create a presence at key scientific conferences including understanding technology landscape for assigned BU(s)
• Serve in an advisory role to management to provide direction and guidance to project teams to execute enterprise-level projects, initiatives and/or programs
• Develop the strategy in the identification of external technology and product opportunities
• Other incidental duties

What you'll need (Required):
• M.D. or equivalent medical degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience in Cardiology
•  Proven successful experience leading the identification, acquisition and/or development of novel/disruptive technologies


What else we look for (Preferred):
•  Interventional Cardiologist highly preferred

• Clinical research experience highly preferred

  Experience working in a pharmaceutical or medical device industry

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related tools and systems
• Creative and strategic, abstract problem solver with high curiosity quotient including possessing rigorous analytical disciplined and ‘hypothesis’ driven approach using a combination of top-down and bottom-up analyses
• Ability to operate fluidly between strategic/conceptual and tactical/executional
• Ability to quickly evaluate solution viability, courage to fail fast and learn from mistakes
• Strong interpersonal skills as team leader and team player with experience cross-functional team management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; dynamic (persuasive) in presenting ideas to teams
• Recognized as an expert within sub-function(s) and/or area(s) and broader organization with broad-based expertise across area and related functions
• Expert understanding of business strategy, competitive landscape, regulatory environment, and clinical data with broad based business and industry knowledge coupled with high-level knowledge of company strategic goals
• Expert understanding of cardiovascular diseases and therapies
• Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control
