Formulation Science within Formulation, Automation & Materials Science, Core R&D is seeking a Senior R&D Leader in Midland, MI. The role provides technical and people leadership for a team that conducts colloid and interfacial science and mechanical dispersion research using both traditional and high throughput methods being a powerhouse for developing new formulation solutions to Dow Businesses. A key component of this role is collaborating with Dow Business R&D partners and cross-functional teams to accelerate the development of new technology across of range of market spaces. This leader also manages the team’s technical portfolio and strategy, including intellectual property and capital planning, to ensure timely value creation through commercialization. The successful candidate must have a strong focus on talent development, safety, diversity & inclusion.  

   

Key responsibilities: 

  • Provide supervision and leadership of direct reports located in Midland; accountable for performance management, team building, reward and recognition, employee development and engagement. 

  • Collaborates across Core R&D and businesses to identify and advance strategic R&D initiatives  

  • Accelerate innovation by enabling capability development in partnership with the businesses to accelerate innovation

  • Oversee implementation and delivery of team’s projects, enabling the successful delivery of project milestones and objectives 

  • Drive the communication and documentation of work; internal reports and presentations, external publications and presentations and patent disclosures 

  • Support multi-disciplinary project teams to provide solutions for well-defined research problems 

  • Define and execute experimental and laboratory capital investment plan 

  • Visible advocate for safety, inclusion and diversity 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, materials science or related field is required.

  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial R&D experience with a track record of technical collaboration, delivery and impact 

  • 3+ years of direct people leadership experience

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively cross-functionally and with senior leaders  

  • Experience with high throughput research
