Description

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing First Article Inspections (FAIs) and other inspections to ensure parts, components, and assemblies meet customer, regulatory, and company specifications. This position requires strong technical expertise in aerospace quality standards, the ability to interpret complex engineering documentation, proficiency with precision measurement tools, and knowledge of calibration requirements

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform First Article Inspections of parts, materials, components, sub-assemblies, assemblies, tools, and final product configuration using customer blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, purchase orders, and other applicable sources.
  2. Review contracts, purchase orders, drawings, routings, shop instructions, and other planning documents for quality requirements.
  3. Support the qualification of new products and ensure correct inspection methods, tools, and criteria are applied.
  4. Assist Production with continuous improvement activities by providing guidance and leadership.
  5. Identify, segregate, and properly document nonconforming material in accordance with company procedures.
  6. Prepare and use standard documentation for reporting inspection data.
  7. Record variable inspection data on Detailed Inspection Plans (DIPs) to capture measurement results.
  8. Demonstrate accuracy in judgment when assessing critical components.
  9. Apply sampling plans to establish product acceptance in line with customer specifications.
  10. Verify production and engineering qualification processes for compliance with approved methods and procedures.
  11. Conduct receiving inspections for purchased parts and materials.
  12. Verify calibration status of inspection equipment, ensure proper calibration intervals are met, and report any out-of-tolerance conditions.
  13. Develop positive working relationships with all departments, suppliers, and customers.
  14. Maintain organized inspection records in compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements.
  15. Perform other duties consistent with the position, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 6+ years aerospace manufacturing experience as a First Article Inspector within a machining environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • CMM programming experience and knowledge of CMM inspection methodology.
    • Proficient in ASME Y14.5 and advanced GD&T.
    • Ability to perform surface plate layout inspection.
    • Skilled with common inspection tools: calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, bore scopes.
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and symbols.
    • Knowledge of calibration processes, requirements, and recordkeeping.
  • Quality Expertise:
    • Knowledge of problem-solving methods, statistical sampling, and inspection techniques.
    • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.) is a plus.

Education: High school diploma, GED, or technical school diploma required; may substitute with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
