About the role

Gartner is looking for a VP, Team Manager, to manage a team of Experts covering Research & Development (R&D) functional leadership topics like portfolio management, talent, functional performance & design, strategy and roadmap development, and new product development.

Research and Advisory Team Managers play a pivotal role in our business. They execute Gartner’s business strategy by directing the work of a team of Experts ensuring the production of high-quality deliverables that improve client retention. They guide associates in their client interactions, research writing, and presentations. And they help grow Gartner’s business by shaping a diverse, equitable and inclusive climate that allows associates to grow and thrive in their careers.

About this role: 

You will lead a team of R&D Experts within the Supply Chain practice. This team is focused on driving client retention with R&D leaders through provocative and pragmatic research on the major technology, process and people trends. This team creates a range of publications including Market Guides, Innovation Insights, Top Practices, and many more.  In this role, you will collaborate with other team leaders who manage Experts and Researchers who study and advise clients on R&D/Supply Chain challenges and priorities. You will be a connector for your associates throughout Gartner.  Ideally you have strong familiarity or a background working in the following areas:

  • R&D functional management – portfolio management, organizational design, strategy/roadmap development, metrics
  • New Product Development – managing new product development processes,
  • Design, testing, prototyping new products and / or technologies

What you’ll do: 

  • Lead a team of Analysts and Advisors by providing effective coaching and continuous performance feedback, managing performance at all levels, and hiring, developing, and retaining top talent. Drive a high-performance, collaborative team culture.
  • Drive thought leadership within the team and coach/champion the creation of high-quality, distinctive and enduring research in support of R&D leader priorities.
  • Coach and support the team in consistently delivering high-quality, compelling client and prospect interactions.
  • Support key initiative leaders (i.e., individuals responsible for research agenda setting) in assessing client needs, evaluating content performance, and collaborating with authors to drive client engagement through content.
  • Foster an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion and engagement on our team and drive Gartner’s commitment to DE&I throughout all aspects of the business: hiring practices, associate development, client service and community support

What you’ll need: 

  • 12+ years’ experience, ideally with previous management experience (e.g., Team Manager (TM), Chief of Research, Key Initiative Leader, Conference Chair) or experience with content creation and delivery (e.g., expert, researcher).
  • Experience working in R&D in manufacturing-heavy environments, like industrial manufacturing, CPG/food & beverage, life science / medical device/pharmaceuticals is highly regarded.
  • Experience in authoring or coaching authors of high-profile content (e.g., Magic Quadrants, Innovation Insights, Signature Studies, Predicts, Leadership Vision)
  • Demonstrate strong communication, analytical and project management skills. Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
