Radiation Oncology Dosimetrists

Job Summary:

The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation therapy treatment team who is thoroughly familiar with the physical and geometrical characteristics of the radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed and has the training and expertise necessary to measure and calculate radiation doses under the direction of the Therapeutic Radiological Physicist and the Radiation Oncologist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fulfills various administrative responsibilities assigned under the direction of the Dosimetry Supervisor which can include but not limited to the following:

• Various education onboarding responsibilities, oversight of special dosimetry procedures, continuous plan quality auditing of dosimetry staff
•  Accurately performs treatment plans, irregular field calculations, gap calculations, dose site calculations, and other requested calculations, in a timely manner.
• Supervises the therapy staff in the implementation of the treatment plan (correct use of beam modifiers, arrangement, geometry of beams and other beam parameters).
• Supervises, performs, or assists in the planning, fabrication, and implementation of custom shields, compensators, wedges, and other beam modification devices and immobilization devices.
• Supervises and/or participates in radiotherapy treatment simulations, special dosimetry measurements or calculations, and micro-dosimetry procedures for radiation therapy treatment planning.
   

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

• Compliance (Advanced): Demonstrates expert knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations as they apply to the incumbent's department and work areas. Analyzes the rules and regulations for situations that are unusual and knows the interrelationship and implication of various rules and regulations in other areas of the department. Understands the flow of rules and regulations beyond the work area and can converse intelligently about alternatives and make recommendations for more effective rules and regulations to senior management. May represent the company at regional industry organizations meetings for discussing rules and regulations.
• Patient Documentation (Advanced): Demonstrates mastery of patient documentation in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering patient documentation services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
• Radiology (Advanced): Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying radiology services in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers results in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Contributes to the development of best practices for the organization.
