AGENCY OVERVIEW:

Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. We offer world-class services to support individuals and families across all stages of life, including adoption, mental health, senior care, disability services, financial assistance, Holocaust education, and youth development. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Community Education, the University Fellow will work to support JFCS Holocaust Center programs, including high school programs, Speakers Bureau programs, public and state-wide programs, outreach efforts, and the library and archives. The University Fellow works in partnership with JFCS staff on program implementation and represents the JFCS Holocaust Center with students and community members.


The University Fellow is an undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for education and Holocaust/genocide studies. The University Fellow understands and assists in meeting budget and services goals, understands the mission and objectives of Jewish Family and Children’s Services, and works within the limitations of the Agency’s resources and performs all duties in compliance with agency standards.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Pay Range: $19.61/hr
  • Role is from October 2026 – June 2027

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentoring and building relationships with high school students
  • Supporting the development of curriculum and online educational tools for middle and high school learners
  • Engaging with Holocaust and genocide survivors and preserving their stories
  • Assisting in the facilitation of public and Speakers Bureau programs
  • Maintaining and creating digital resources for the Tauber Holocaust Library and Archives
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of the California Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education
  • Researching, writing, or designing content for the Holocaust Center’s social media and outreach efforts
  • Collaborating with other JFCS programs and departments
  • Participating in occasional JFCS or departmental meetings and trainings
  • Representing the Holocaust Center with professionalism, responsibility, and cultural sensitivity
  • Maintaining confidentiality and protecting client and community member privacy

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a Bay Area-based university or college
  • Familiarity with the history of the Holocaust and/or genocide studies, Jewish studies, or related fields (e.g., history, sociology, comparative literature) is preferred
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with youth and/or a strong interest in education
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Basic proficiency with computer software and tools, including video conferencing platforms and social media
  • A commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and a willingness to learn
