AGENCY OVERVIEW:

Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Programming, the University Fellow will work to support JFCS Holocaust Center programs, including high school programs, Speakers Bureau programs, public and state-wide programs, social media, and the library and archives.  The University Fellow is responsible for assisting JFCS staff members to whom they report and serving as the public face of the Holocaust Center for students and community members.

The University Fellow is an undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for education and Holocaust/genocide studies.  They understand the missions and goals of the Agency and work within the Agency’s resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

• Pay Range: $18.67/hr

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supports the Manovill Seminar and Conversation Circle, extracurricular service-learning programs for Bay Area teens
• Supports William J. Lowenberg Speakers Bureau programs for schools, organizations, and the larger public
• Supports public programming for students, educators, and the community
• Supports the Tauber Holocaust Library and Archives
• Supports the planning and facilitation of the California Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education
• Supports the research, writing, or design of Holocaust Center social media posts and other marketing activities
• Supports and works cooperatively with other JFCS programs
• Attends and participates in the in-person orientation and in-person graduation
• Attends and participates in monthly University Fellow seminars
• Participates in JFCS and departmental meetings and trainings and represents the department in a professional demeanor 
• Maintains client privacy and confidentiality 
• Fosters a spirit of teamwork and unity among JFCS staff that allows for cultivating ideas, expeditious resolution of conflict, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working together to enable each employee and the department to succeed 
• Complies with the Jewish Family and Children’s Services Policy and Procedures Manual, as well as agency health and safety standards for clients, employees, and the facility 
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Programming

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a California university
• A minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth and/or an interest in teaching
• Familiarity with the history of the Holocaust and completion of related coursework preferred
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive working relationships with colleagues, students, teachers, and the public
• Basic knowledge of computer software, including video conferencing software
• Ability to manage time efficiently and be able to work individually and in a team setting
• Ability to perform work remotely
