SUMMARY
The Retrofit Applications Engineer II is a mid-level engineer that is responsible for the technical application of TGW products and third-party equipment to complete mechanical system designs during the quotation phase of projects. This role supports the Retrofit Sales Team to optimally translate customer requirements into a competitive and economically viable intralogistics solution. There will be a design emphasis on expansions, modifications, and modernizations of existing systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design medium-complexity mechatronic layouts using TGW’s product portfolio and relevant third-party equipment for technically sound and economically efficient proposals.
- Develop and redesign hardware systems to meet customer modernization needs.
- Conduct performance calculations, warehouse design, equipment selection, and energy efficiency assessments.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and guidelines in all technical designs.
- Act as the technical point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Gather and analyze customer requirements to create tailored intralogistics solutions.
- Present and justify technical concepts and proposals to customers.
- Conduct on-site inspections to assess installation conditions and retrofit scenarios.
- Create concept, inquiry, and proposal layouts with accurate mechanical costing.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external partners during proposal development.
- Track schedules proactively and optimize costs during calculations.
- Support the sales project team in strategic technical decisions.
- Participate in project handovers and provide support during the transition to implementation.
- Serve as a reliable technical consultant and central hub for retrofit projects.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
Two (2) to four (4) years of applications engineering, or related experience, preferably in a material handling environment.
Travel:
Up to 10% travel required.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong proficiency in 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- AutoCAD (2D CAD) and Sketchup experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment.
