VDOT’s Fredericksburg District has an exciting opportunity available in its Administrative Department. We are seeking qualified candidates to fill an Administrative Assistant vacancy. This position will serve as the front desk receptionist and will provide administrative and technical support to the Fredericksburg District Administration. This position requires extensive interaction with a multitude of clients including citizens, utility companies, private firms, VDOT staff, and other government agencies. The candidate must be able to function well under pressure and handle dissatisfied customers with a positive attitude. The successful candidate will effectively handle phone calls, emails, and walk-in requests. Responsibilities will also include sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail, and other duties as assigned.

This position is an hourly/wage position. Wage employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week on average over the course of a year and are limited to 1,500 hours withing a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided.

• Ability to compile, coordinate and prepare reports
• Ability to research, gather, and analyze data
• Ability to read, interpret and apply policies and procedures
• Ability to interpret and apply standard record and retention practices and procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues appropriately

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include Microsoft Office
• Experience applying executive administrative practices
• Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
• Experience applying office business practices and principles
• Ability to compile, coordinate and prepare reports
• Skill in filing and document management
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues appropriately
• Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers

 

Additional Considerations

• Experience interpreting and applying policies and procedures
• Ability to work independently
• A combination of training, experience, or education in general office practices, procedures or related field desired
