Vanderbilt Health – Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Senior Director, Pharmacy, Formulary, Research & Education, reporting to the Chief Pharmacy Officer.The Senior Director provides oversight of formulary processes for the Vanderbilt Health enterprise as well as serving as secretary of the campus-based Pharmacy, Therapeutics and Diagnostics committee. This position leads governance for various formulary subcommittees and onboards new physician chairs and pharmacist secretaries for these committees. This position also provides leadership of the department’s support services for Vanderbilt’s Institute for Clinical and Translational Research as well as oversight of the department’s initiatives with clinical experience rotations for students at area Colleges of Pharmacy as well as the department’s PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy residency training program.

These areas of oversight are covered by this position,
- Pharmacy Therapeutics and Diagnostics Formulary oversight
- Oversight of health system formulary for enterprise and coordination of alignment across the system.
- Coordination of pediatrics, hematology/oncology, antimicrobial, vaccine stewardship, anticoagulation, glycemic control, regional hospital, medication safety, pharmacy technology, compounding, emergency preparedness, and medication alert subcommittees.
- Coordination of prescribing for Vanderbilt Medical Laboratories
- Facilitation and presentation of over 120 formulary reviews annually
- Facilitation and presentation of 20 Medication Utilization reviews annually
- Maintenance of formulary for control of drug expense and favorable benchmarking with peer institutions. (9 of 31 peers in Vizient for lowest drug spend)
- Oversight of non-formulary requests for various clinical scenarios
- Associated savings due to denial of requests $1.5M annually
- Pharmacy residency programs
- Oversight of PGY1 programs in adult, community and pediatric pharmacy practice
- Oversight of PGY2 programs in critical care, cardiology, oncology, infectious diseases, informatics and administration.
- Program celebrated 33rd year of operation in 2026, with graduates practicing in clinical pharmacy, administration and academic practice nationally.
- Oversight of program accreditation.
- Investigational Drug Services
- 12 employees supporting 450 average open protocols per month.
- Approximately 175 protocols opened per year.
- 7000 dispenses per year
- 1250 audits, monitor visits, IRB and feasibility meetings annually
- 1800 IRB reviews annually
- 1200 amendment/pharmacy manual reviews annually
- 30 institutional biosafety committee reviews annually
- Genomics Program support
- Oversight of FTE supporting PREDICT program
- Maintenance of genomics related lab testing interpretation
- Coverage of genomics clinic
- College of Pharmacy Student Clinical Experiences
- 1 employee supporting 6 College of Pharmacy’s who are contracted for clinical experiences

Qualifications:
- Tennessee Pharmacist License
- Pharm.D
- MBA, preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of Pharmacy experience, overs
