About the role

Enphase Energy is a global energy technology company and a leading provider of solar, battery, and electric vehicle charging products. Founded in 2006, our innovative microinverter technology revolutionized solar power, making it a safer, more reliable, and scalable energy source. Today, the Enphase Energy System enables users to make, use, save, and sell their own power. Enphase is also one of the most successful and innovative clean energy companies in the world, with more than 80 million products shipped across 160 countries.   Join our dynamic teams designing and developing next-gen energy technologies and help drive a sustainable future! We are seeking a Architect for Medium Voltage (MV) rated electronic hardware (typically 1 kV to 35 kV) to lead the architecture and development of next-generation power conversion equipment for grid-scale applications. This leader will combine deep, hands-on engineering experience with system-level architecture to define product roadmaps, drive end-to-end designs, engage with customers and utilities, and guide teams through innovation, development, validation, certification, and successful launch. You’ll advise the technical direction for MV equipment including power conversion (e.g., MV inverters/PCS), transformers, protection & control, insulation systems, and interface requirements for utility interconnection. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Field Service to deliver robust, cost-effective, and certifiable products. WHAT YOU WILL DOArchitecture & System Design
  • Define end-to-end architecture for MV electronic hardware systems: topology, component selection, insulation coordination, creepage/clearance, dielectric barriers, thermal management, EMI/EMC strategy, and safety.
  • Architect grid-tied MV power conversion solutions including front-end rectifiers/inverters, MV transformers, relaying/protection, auxiliary power systems, and controls.
  • Translate customer, utility, and regulatory requirements into system and subsystem specifications; own the Requirements, DVP&R, and Safety Case.
Hands-on Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Lead and participate in hands-on design: schematics, electrical circuit design, MV busbar structures, partial discharge mitigation, surge protection, grounding/bonding, and HV PCB layout practices.
  • Guide FEA/thermal/electromagnetic analyses; review models and prototypes; oversee DFMEA/PFMEA, reliability prediction (MTBF/Weibull), HALT/HASS, and failure analysis.
  • Establish design standards, templates, and best practices for MV equipment; coach engineers and review critical design artifacts.
Customer & Utility Interface
  • Engage directly with customers, EPCs, and utilities to capture use cases, grid codes, protection schemes, and site constraints; lead technical workshops and design reviews.
Program Leadership & Cross-Functional Execution
  • Advise product from concept to launch: technology downselect, make/buy, supplier selection, design verification/validation, certification testing, manufacturability, and cost-out.
  • Collaborate with Compliance to plan and execute certification and type tests (e.g., dielectric, impulse, short-circuit, temperature rise, EMC).
Standards, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure designs meet relevant standards and codes (examples below) and internal safety policies.
  • Identify and help shape evolving standards consistent with customer and Enphase needs.
  • Advise development of documentation: architecture descriptions, interface control documents (ICDs), protection & coordination studies, commissioning procedures, and user manuals.

WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Electronics, Power Systems, or related). Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 10+ years of hands-on design experience with MV equipment (1 kV–35 kV): MV power converters, switchgear, transformers, relaying/protection, or MV distribution equipment.
  • Proven experience architecting grid-scale power electronics or MV systems (e.g., utility-scale BESS PCS, MV motor drives, HV rectifiers, FACTS, HVDC/HV traction).
  • Deep knowledge of insulation coordination, partial discharge, creepage/clearance, surge withstand, corona mitigation, and dielectric testing.
  • Strong background in power devices, snubbers, commutation loops, and low-inductance bus structures.
  • Proficiency with EMI/EMC design and compliance (conducted/radiated emissions, immunity, filtering, shielding, bonding).
  • Experience with protection & relaying, coordination studies, and MV switchgear integration (ANSI/IEC).
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional product development and successful product launch.
  • Excellent communication skills for customer interface, technical presentations, an
