Summary:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the accounting for all Federal and State Financial Assistance and Loan programs as well as various accounting functions of the general ledger. The Senior Accountant is a supervisory accounting position reporting directly to the Assistant Controller – General Accounting.
Direct Responsibilities:
Accounting for all Federal and State Financial Assistance and Loan Programs.
FISAP reporting
Pell Grant program
SEOG
Direct Loan Program – Stafford, Parent Plus
NDSL/Perkins & Nursing Loans - Complete nursing loan report and submit to the reporting body by the deadline
College Work Study
JLD program
Prepare all loan program reconciliations and reporting
Prepare all financial aid workpapers for the annual audit
General Ledger/Financial
Account Reconciliations
Oversee preparation of sales taxes and city amusement taxes monthly
Oversee auditing of checks for the capital process
Oversee and approve write-off of stale A/P checks
Responsible for reporting unclaimed property to the State of Illinois annually
Perform the draws of federal financial assistance and loan funds each term
Perform the accounting for all capital building and equipment purchases.
Perform an annual federal capital equipment audit
Responsible for tagging all capital equipment
Complete and submit Commerce Department reports for capital assets by the deadline
Supervision
Directly supervise the student loans advisor. This position handles the day-to-day Perkins information, disbursement of federal loans, and helps with the capital equipment function.
Other duties as assigned
Assist the Bursar’s Office during busy times.
Assist Student Fees to pursue and process past due fees
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To be successful in this role, the Senior Accountant needs to demonstrate critical skills and competencies, including:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in a business related field. An MBA will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in a business related field.
A minimum of three years of work experience in relevant tax, accounting and compliance work preferred
Ability to communicate well (written and verbal)
Strong interpersonal skills for contact with University personnel, students and external constituents
Organized, timely, and efficient
Ability to multitask effectively and have strong attention to detail
Ability to take initiative and manage projects independently
Ethical standards and confidentiality required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Higher Education or Non-Profit experience preferred
