Overview

Tonal seeks an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and creative leader to work cross-functionally on content and creative productions and oversee studio operations. Based in New York, this highly collaborative role requires a deep understanding of the media landscape and production workflows, providing connective tissue for many stakeholders. Tonal is the industry leader in intelligent strength training, and our commitment to delivering an unparalleled fitness experience extends to our vast library of workout content that streams directly to our members' homes. This pivotal role is instrumental in shaping the vision and strategy for our production teams, ensuring that we continue to provide world-class fitness content that empowers our customers on their fitness journey. This role reports directly to the VP of Content. 

What You Will Do

  • Production Strategy: Develop and execute a forward-thinking production strategy and vision that aligns with Tonal's mission and business objectives in regards to member engagement. Assess strategic initiatives, map resources accordingly, and provide input and tradeoffs to manager.

  • Studio Leadership: Oversees the New York City studio operations, including content production, stage scheduling, day-to-day management of studio resources including building facilities, stage, and technology. Ensures a seamless, well-equipped, and efficient working environment aligned with our professional, cultural, and creative excellence standards.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with cross-functional leads (Creative, Post, Talent, Performance, Product, Social/Community) to implement best practices, fostering a teamwork-driven and collaborative environment that encourages experimentation and innovation.

  • People and Project Management: Lead and mentor a team of talented in-house creatives and external contractors within a coordinated, mission-driven environment. Orchestrate in-house systems and workflow processes to ensure seamless execution of artistic, operational, and strategic objectives. Monitor and track the success of shoots, on-time delivery of assets, providing valuable insights for continuous improvement.

  • Tech Innovation: Maintain a proactive approach by staying up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, incorporating relevant advancements into studio operations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Problem Solving & Proactive Communication: Function as the key liaison between production operations and wider Content team. Lead pre-pro strategy, consistently implementing improvements to facilitate effective communication and collaboration among cross-functional teams within the studio. Manage logistical, operational, and technical support for teams within the content and cross-functional partners with clear communication.

  • Budget Management: Administer and oversee the operating budget for productions and studio operations, ensuring strategic allocation of resources to optimize financial efficiency. Partner closely with VP of Content on budget forecasting. Successfully ensure project completion within allocated budgets. 

Who You Are

  • 8+ years of experience as a people leader capable of successfully hiring, leading, and developing in-house studio teams

  •  5+ years of experience leading in-house studio teams of 5-10 or more individuals

  • A confident leader with a growth mindset and a track record of inspiring your team to do their best work, maintain a standard of excellence, and grow in their professions

  • A collaborative team player who can communicate effectively

  • Experience managing various production environments from “in-studio” to “on-location,” from stage productions to mobile-first social shoots. 

  • An innovative thinker, willing to problem solve creatively, always
