About the role

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This position is responsible for planning, management, and execution of large IT projects which are highly complex and whose success is critical to the organization’s overall strategic objectives and initiatives. Working independently, the position will facilitate and promote collaboration at all levels of the organization while serving as the serving as the primary interface between executive project sponsors and the project team.  Serves as a subject matter expert on the utilization of project management tools and methodology, ensuring an integrated approach resulting in the successful implementation of projects; provides coaching in effective project management methodologies and behaviors, ranging from routine to advance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Minimum Education: Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Degree: Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Minimum Work Experience: Five years of experience in Information Technology, Project Management, or related field.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Must have above average problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint and other computer applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates system design, implementation, maintenance, and on-going support for IT projects.  
  • Facilitates the development of functional and technical design criteria, including interface specifications, and user/technical/operational documentation.
  • Ensures system design follows best practices to achieve efficiencies and the project outcome is consistent with end user requirements.
  • Manage system installation and upgrade projects in accordance with established   methodologies.
  • Incorporates appropriate processes and procedural changes into systems design and project implementation.
  • Ensures that implementation of procedures, systems, upgrades, and enhancements do not conflict with current production and test environments; or cause adverse or unexpected outcomes.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation is developed for all project phases.
  • Leads system project efforts through coordination of activities, staff, users, and vendors.
  • Coordinates active participation with project team members and vendors. 
    • Monitors the progress of the project to ensure it meets standards, conforms to specifications, and is meeting project schedules.
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport with users and other personnel.
  • Provides prompt, detailed feedback to IS Management regarding active and potential barriers to successful project completion.
    • Develops project plans and schedules, in conjunction with clients and vendors, using standard methodologies.
  • Establishes, with reasonable accuracy, estimates of hours and timeframes to complete projects.
  • Plans, executes, and finalizes projects - meeting deadlines and within budget.
  • Monitors and reports project progress against established work plans.
  • Informs IS Management of changes in project plans or status that may affect scheduling, resources, cost, or outcome.
  • Seeks guidance and direction, as necessary, for the successful completion of tasks and projects.
  • Makes productive use of time and staff resources.
  • Responsible for problem diagnosis, and problem resolution related to active projects.
  • Effectively coordinates problem resolution with users, other IT personnel, and vendors.
  • Learns the necessary tools and methodology associated with project management with the primary objective of becoming a subject matter expert.  
  • Tracks, through frequent review, the progress of development to ensure it meets standards, conforms to specifications, and is meeting project schedules.
  • Assesses problem situations with care and considers all aspects before pursuing a solution; seeks advice from management as needed.
  • Develop proper transition documentation/protocol from the project completion to operations.
  • Ensures that system changes are thoroughly tested before placing in production; follows department change management P&P and monitors results befor
