Senior Learning & Development Program Manager
OpenAIAbout the role
About the Team
The People Programs team at OpenAI plays a pivotal role in creating an environment where every employee can thrive, grow, and contribute to our mission of ensuring that AGI benefits all of humanity. This expanding team develops and executes human-first strategies and programs that support our rapid growth, unique culture, and innovative spirit.
Our Coaching, Learning & Development team manages programs ranging from new employee onboarding, manager development, and learning systems used across OpenAI.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Learning & Development Program Manager to join our team as a strong individual contributor. In this role, you will be a generalist designing, building, program managing, and occasionally facilitating L&D programs. This role will also own career growth programming for individual contributors.
This role will also have an operational aspect, rolling up the sleeves and building processes around internal learning requests and shepherding the hygiene of our learning management system. This role will occasionally jump in to facilitate an onboarding session for our Onboarding PM and might find themselves making sure rooms are set up with learning materials in place for in-person training.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic partner across the People team and engaging with OpenAI employees to understand their development needs. This role reports to our Head of Learning & Development. It will collaborate closely with other L&D team members.
You’ll have several areas of responsibilities, including:
Career Growth for ICs: Drive career growth programming for individual contributors, including design, facilitation, and program management. Topics might include adaptability, resilience, critical thinking, and operating effectively and quickly in a highly ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
IC Enablement: Enablement for individual contributors to support key people programs, e.g., performance reviews, compensation conversations.
Team Development: Support the development of bespoke team interventions, partnering with our Head of L&D and Manager Development PM on design and program management, and occasionally facilitation. These might include strategic team offsites or team workshops intended to increase collaboration and a psychologically-safe and feedback-rich environment.
Instructional Design: Utilizing Sana not only to develop content for career growth for ICs and for IC enablement but also supporting other L&D team members on the development of their content, e.g., onboarding and manager development.
LMS Operations: Fine-tuning the back-end operations of our learning management system Sana - creating dashboards, managing permissions, approving requests for onboarding internal Sana content creators, onboarding them – and defining and managing a triaging system for Sana access.
General L&D Support: Occasionally covering for other L&D team members with the program management and facilitation of their programs. This could run the gamut from being in front of the room as a facilitator to making sure a room is set up with learning materials in place.
We’ll look for these qualities, experience, and skills:
7+ years of experience in program management, learning and development, onboarding, or a similar role.
Proven ability to build and manage L&D programs for global teams.
Exceptional verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills.
Strong project management abilities with attention to detail and a knack for organization.
Ability to thrive and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment.
Creative and innovative approach to problem solving and designing/implementing programs.
Experience with collecting and using data to inform decisions and improve program effectiveness.
Passion for fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.
