We are seeking two Administrative Specialist 1s to join our Pupil Transportation & Fingerprinting Office at the Oregon Department of Education. These are permanent positions, represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
These roles are a hybrid of remote work and will need to report to office when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities. Remote work is embraced to the fullest extent possible without interfering with business.

The Pupil Transportation and Fingerprinting Office at the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of students across the state. This office oversees the administration and regulation of student transportation programs, ensuring that school bus services meet safety standards, comply with state and federal regulations, and provide reliable access for all students. Additionally, the office manages fingerprinting and background check processes for school employees, contractors, and volunteers, helping to maintain safe learning environments by verifying that individuals working with students meet rigorous safety and ethical standards. By combining transportation oversight with comprehensive screening procedures, the office supports ODE’s broader mission of promoting student well-being and fostering secure, accessible educational opportunities.
What You Will Do!
In this role, you will oversee and support programs that keep Oregon schools safe and compliant. You will process criminal history checks for applicants and volunteers, manage records, and guide school districts on program requirements. You will assist with Activity Driver and Athlete Agent applications, coordinate school site reviews, and support training workshops. The role includes data management, reporting, and administrative support, while promoting equity, inclusivity, and respectful engagement with all stakeholders.
