Senior Underwriter, Casualty

Westchester, a Chubb company is looking to expand the Middle Market Casualty team.  We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Jersey City, NJ. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in primary casualty insurance, with a focus on E&S underwriting. This role requires a deep understanding of the insurance market, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with wholesale brokers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and underwrite primary casualty insurance submissions in the E&S space, focusing on Real Estate, Products, and Construction sectors.
• Help develop underwriting guidelines and appetite 
• Collaborate with wholesale brokers to assess risks, determine coverage options, and negotiate terms and pricing.
• Analyze loss history, financial statements, and other relevant data to make informed underwriting decisions.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate business growth and retention.
• Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions to inform underwriting strategies.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters and support team development.
• Prepare and present underwriting recommendations to management and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in underwriting primary casualty insurance, preferably in the E&S market.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and guidelines.
• Experience in Real Estate, Products, and Construction insurance is highly preferred.
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with brokers and clients.
• Proficient in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AU) are a plus.

The pay range for the role is $78,900 to $134,100. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
