Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking a full time Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatrician for a Newborn Nursery (NBN) Hospitalist position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join our growing, diverse, and talented team.  Candidates must possess or be eligible for New York State licensure. 

To qualify for an appointment as Associate Professor the candidate must meet the School of Medicine's criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).

Responsibilities and Requirements

This is a NBN Hospitalist position which will include participation in the education of residents.  Responsibilities include development of research programs, teaching and participation in patient care programs appropriate to a major university.  Opportunities and excellent resources for research also exist.

The NICU Hospitalist will provide direct care to patients at the Labor and Delivery Service and Nursery at Southampton Hospital.  There are opportunities to participate in the care of patients in the NICU at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

This is a faculty academic position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level.  Individuals will be selected on the basis of their training, clinical experience, research potential and their commitment to teaching.  Faculty appointment will be commensurate with qualifications.  Excellent resources for research and start-up funds are available.  The position will be full time, faculty, academic (Assistant or Associate Professor).

The clinical services of Stony Brook Children’s serve the nearly 500,000 children of Suffolk County, New York, and boasts the following resources:

  • A dedicated, tertiary-care Long Island Children’s Hospital located outside of New York City, Stony Brook Children's opened its new Children's Hospital in November 2019.  This space is part of Stony Brook Medicine's $423 million expansion project, which also includes a Medical and Research Translation (MART) building. 
  • A 10-bed Med-Surg PICU featuring large individual rooms, a bariatric room, and capacity for 2 additional step-down beds.
  • Dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department to undergo expansion.
  • Level I pediatric trauma center.
  • A 110 person Pediatrics faculty covering all Pediatric Subspecialties including Adolescent Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Child Abuse and Advocacy, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Hematology/Oncology, Hospital Medicine, Infectious Disease, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology.
  • Pediatric Surgical Specialists in General Surgery, ENT, Neurosurgery, and Trauma as well as additional expertise in Pediatric Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Surgery, and Oral-maxillofacial Surgery, and Renal Transplantation.
  • Pediatric, Med/Peds, and Child Neurology residency training programs and selected subspecialty fellowships.
  • Rich research resources for laboratory, translational, and clinical research exist within the 20 clinical departments of the Medical School and the larger University.  Competitive seed money support within the Department exists for junior investigators or mid-career investigators pursuing new directions.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

MD/DO Degree, Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatrics, Eligible for Medical Licensure in State of New York.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION: 

Experience in residency education.
