The Director of Inventory and Distribution oversees and optimizes inventory management across our Distribution Operations sites while ensuring efficient distribution operations at a single central distribution facility. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration to support business objectives, maintain operational excellence, and ensure customer satisfaction.


Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:


Inventory Management (Multi-Site):

  • Ensure development, improvement, performance, and adherence to safety standards, regulations, and company policies within the distribution center.
  • Develop and implement strategies for managing inventory across multiple sites, ensuring optimal stock levels to meet demand without overstocking.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory turnover, accuracy, capacity impact, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to ensure adherence to inventory policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and cycle counts across all sites to maintain inventory accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyze inventory trends and provide insights to support demand forecasting and procurement planning.

Distribution Operations (Single Site):

  • Lead and oversee daily operations of the central distribution facility, ensuring timely and cost-effective order fulfillment.
  • Manage logistics and transportation processes to ensure seamless delivery to customers or other business locations.
  • Implement strategies to optimize warehouse layout, workflows, and resource utilization.
  • Track and analyze distribution performance metrics, such as on-time delivery and order accuracy, to drive continuous improvement.

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and execute long-term strategies to align inventory and distribution operations with business goals.
  • Lead a team of managers and staff across multiple locations, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Identify and implement technologies to enhance inventory and distribution operations, including ERP and WMS solutions.
  • Partner with stakeholders in procurement, sales, and operations to create seamless end-to-end supply chain processes.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets for inventory and distribution operations, ensuring cost control and efficiency.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement improvement plans.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and logistics providers to optimize costs and service levels.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in inventory management and distribution operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing multi-site inventory and single-site distribution operations.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management systems, warehouse management systems (WMS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.

Skills:

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies is a plus.
