Overview

As a DoD SkillBridge intern, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your military experience in a civilian setting while building new skills in program and project management. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to federal health initiatives, collaborate with experienced leaders, and contribute to projects that directly support mission success. You’ll strengthen your facilitation, organizational, and problem-solving skills while exploring pathways into business development, process improvement, and team support. This internship is designed to give you meaningful experience, professional mentorship, and a strong foundation for your next career chapter.

Responsibilities

Introduction to Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) & Depot Relationship

  • Define PBL and explain how it supports readiness and cost-effective sustainment.
  • Describe how Depot operations support Navy mission requirements.
  • Identify the roles of government, partners, and Depot in a PBL environment.
  • Explain how technician tasks tie into overall PBL performance outcomes.

Introduction to Depot-Level Repair Objectives

  • Understand the purpose and scope of depot-level repair.
  • Identify major depot repair processes such as teardown, inspection, repair, test, and return-to-service.
  • Explain how depot repairs differ from organizational/intermediate-level maintenance.
  • Describe technician responsibilities within the depot repair workflow.

Application of Depot-Level Repair Objectives

  • Apply understanding of depot repair processes through scenario-based tasks.
  • Demonstrate how repair objectives impact throughput, cost, and readiness metrics.
  • Understand how to interpret depot work instructions and technical manuals (TMs) and technical data packages (TDPs) to include schematics and electronic diagrams.
  • Describe the quality and documentation requirements associated with depot-level tasks.

Equipment Readiness Levels & Their Meaning

  • Define readiness levels and explain how they are measured (e.g., FMC, PMC, NMCS).
  • Identify how maintenance actions impact readiness rates.
  • Interpret readiness data and explain how it supports sustainment decisions.
  • Understand technician roles in readiness reporting and performance improvement.

Understanding of ISO Certification

  • Explain the purpose of ISO standards in Navy and contractor environments.
  • Understand core ISO principles: quality management, consistency, traceability, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify ISO requirements relevant to depot maintenance operations.
  • Recognize how non-compliance affects mission performance and audits.

Establishing an ISO-Compliant Program

  • Identify required components of an ISO-compliant documentation system.
  • Learn how to develop standardized work instructions and process maps.
  • Understand document control requirements: versioning, approvals, storage, and access.
  • Practice creating draft process documents that meet ISO structure and language requirements.
  • Understand audit preparation and ongoing compliance expectations.

Development of ISO-Based Artifacts

  • Demonstrate the ability to document processes clearly and in alignment with ISO formatting.
