What’s the role?

As a Staff Product Designer on Enablement, you'll help us accelerate machine learning at Etsy by designing solutions, systems and processes, and enabling product development teams to solve our most pressing customer needs. Your internal customers and partners will include engineers, machine learning scientists, analysts, product managers, designers and more. This role combines technical complexity with high impact — your work will lower the barrier to entry to machine learning, data engineering, experimentation and personalization across our customer experience organization. 

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Product Design Manager for Enablement and the base salary range will be 157,000 - 205,000 USD per year.  In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. Join a team focused on and passionate about machine learning, data and experimentation. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and analysts. Together you’ll deliver solutions to challenging problems and get feedback directly from our customers. The Enablement design team is made up of product designers passionate about data, experimentation and all the potential that exists in providing greater access to ML/AI capabilities. We work in partnership with product managers and engineering leaders across initiatives to accelerate machine learning and lower the complexity of shipping great software. Our primary customers are internal product development teams and ML practitioners, giving us a front row seat to the insights we need to solve some of the most challenging problems they face. 

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Discovering insights, opportunities, and requirements 
• Mapping the end-to-end user journey for key workflows applying service design methodology
• Serve as a voice of responsible AI and human-centered ML design principles
• Testing prototypes and hypotheses with users to collect feedback 
• Sharing your work to peers and leadership, async and in-person
• Taking part in weekly design critiques, workshops, all hands and squad meetings
• Researching and formulating an opinion on  industry trends in human-centered machine learning
• Thinking and writing about your process and documenting your decisions

• Leading workshops and effectively align the group around a vision, strategy, and approach
• A have a track record of leading through ambiguity and designing complex flows and customer journeys
• Developing a deep understanding of current design patterns and UX trends
• Regularly making use of your soft skills: listening, negotiating, decision-making
• Spend time providing mentorship to other designers who seek out your expertise
• Playing a key part in hiring, onboarding, and improving our team’s culture and engagement
