Assists the Manager 1, Facilities Operations (Landscape Superintendent) with effective management of shop resources, including personnel, supplies, services, equipment, and inventories; provides support to the Landscape Superintendent through supervision of front-line staff in the field, including time and leave approval, performance management, shop safety program, scheduling work through CMMS, ordering parts and materials, and coordination of repairs, maintenance, and inventory of equipment with Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Shop. Prepares reports; estimates time, materials, and labor costs; recommends equipment purchases. Supervises snow removal. Works closely with Landscape Planner to align work and schedules with available resources, including preparation of seasonal schedules for landscape maintenance. Communicates with and coordinates grounds maintenance activities/functions with Zone Leaders, Building Coordinators, and department heads to align outdoor maintenance requirements with schedules and needs; assists Superintendent in meeting and maintaining grounds standards; stands in for the Landscape Superintendent as needed. Works primarily first shift, but is subject to changes in shift, hours, days, and/or location as operations dictate to successfully support operational needs; subject to 24-hour emergency call.
In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17, this position has been designated as essential short-term status and alternate long-term status. Will require the successful completion of a criminal background check.
Minimum Education Requirement
High School diploma or GED.
Experience Requirements
Required: minimum four (4) years of experience (six years desired) working in commercial landscape maintenance, athletic field management, municipal park maintenance, campus/university landscape maintenance, and/or golf course maintenance.
Strongly Desired:
Experience with employee coaching and performance management, or completion of department designated training related to performance management/coaching within the probationary period. Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization; strong problem-solving and decision-making skills; high level of technical competence related to grounds maintenance (including turf, ornamental plantings, irrigation systems, and snow removal), history of safe operation of equipment and vehicles; high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for individuals. Flexibility, good interpersonal skills, and self-direction. Proven ability to build a strong team. Ability to manage conflict effectively. Strong customer service skills. Working proficiency with basic Microsoft office software and other computer software. Comfortable with iPad use, CMMS work management software, and central irrigation control software.
Additional Information:
The targeted hiring range for this job profile is $24.52-$32.21 per hour. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
