Our Internship Program: Our 2024 Summer Internship Program is a paid 12-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 3, 2024. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer. 

Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC’s many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program. 

Our Summer 2024 Internship Program application deadline is Friday, January 26. All materials must be submitted by EOD that date – incomplete or late applications will not be considered. 

Department Overview: Accounting is the largest of the departments that make up the Finance Division. The Accounting Department manages the collection, transfer, investment, and disbursement of funds for NYCEDC and its related entities. It records financial transactions in various systems and then compiles and presents financial statements to Management, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders in New York City and New York State.

Intern Responsibilities: Reporting to the Deputy Controller, the intern will perform various tasks while on rotation between the different divisions of the accounting department. Projects and tasks will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Financial Reporting
    • Assist with year-end audit requests
    • Assist with preparation of the financial statements
    • Perform monthly/quarterly closing procedures including financial statement analysis, account reconciliations, and journal entries
    • Data entry for vouchers
  • Accounts Payable
    • Assist with year-end audit requests
    • Prepare journal entries
    • Assist with the accrual process
    • Review invoice payment requests
  • Revenue
    • Analyze lease agreements
    • Prepare journal entries
    • Perform tenant reconciliations
  • Cash Management
    • Assist with cash application of tenant cash receipts
    • Data entry for checks
    • Perform investment analysis
    • Analyze loan agreements

Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Preferred field(s) of study: Accounting, or a related field
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply     
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC 
  • Proven ability in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word 
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills 
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines 
  • Proactive and able to work in collaborative, cross-functional teams 
  • Must submit a resume and cover letter for the application   
  • Must be able to work full-time and complete the entirety of the 12-week program 

Salary Target: $18/hour (undergraduate-level students); $23/hour (graduate-level students)
