Compliance Manager - Transportation

    

Job Description:

Responsible for ensuring that all transportation operations comply with federal, state, and local Department of Transportation (DOT) and Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Transportation regulations. This role oversees compliance programs, maintains records, provides training, and ensures that the organization adheres to safety and regulatory standards to mitigate risk and maintain operational excellence. Develops and promotes good community relations between school district and community clientele.

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in DOT compliance, transportation management, or safety compliance

LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
- Designated Employee Representative(DER) Certification

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
- Supervises Safety & Compliance trainers

ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed in an office, training setting, etc.
- Mostly clean and comfortable

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate training and mentoring needs
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and assist in emergency situations on a school bus
- Office-based with periodic fieldwork and travel as needed
- Must be white fleet certified for district vehicle
- Interaction with drivers, department personnel, and regulatory agencies.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work to address compliance issues or training needs

    

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

    

Responsibilities:

Ensure proper licensing, permitting, and certification for vehicles and drivers.

Assist in accident investigations(Accident Review Committee), compliance reviews, and audits conducted by regulatory agencies.

Stay updated on changes in DOT regulations and ensure organizational policies reflect current requirements.

Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.

Work with internal and external stakeholders to address compliance issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Provide training and education to drivers and staff on DOT regulations, safety standards, and best practices.

Implement and enforce drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with DOT requirements.

Oversee and manage driver qualification processes, including background checks, medical certifications, and training programs.

Conduct audits of driver logs, vehicle maintenance records, and safety programs to ensure compliance.

Maintain accurate records of driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, hours of service, vehicle inspections, and maintenance logs.

Monitor and ensure adherence to all applicable DOT, FMCSA, and state transportation regulations.

Develop, implement, and oversee DOT compliance policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
