Position Summary:
The Digital Service Designer is responsible for optimizing patient and employee experiences at Boston Children’s Hospital by crafting innovative systems and service designs that align user needs with organizational goals. This role leads efforts to enhance usability, accessibility, and user satisfaction through research, collaboration, and strategic design initiatives. This is a hybrid position with weekly onsite responsibilities both at the BCH Main Campus and administrative offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research to understand patient and employee needs, pain points, and preferences, and translate insights into user-centric strategies supported by data.
- Create and refine detailed system and service design documents, including specifications, diagrams, flowcharts, and service blueprints.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, ensuring that solutions align with organizational objectives and user needs.
- Develop communication artifacts that define the current state and future state of experiential designs.
- Design, develop, and iterate on prototypes, focusing on enhancing usability, accessibility, and overall user experience optimization.
- Lead and facilitate user testing sessions, collecting feedback to assess design effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Communicate design concepts and solutions effectively to stakeholders, emphasizing user benefits and strategic alignments.
- Implement feedback loops for continuous design enhancements to ensure ongoing innovation and adaptability.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Human-Computer Interaction, Service Design, or a related field of study required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in system or service design, with expertise in human-centered design practices required.
- Healthcare experience is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in design and collaboration tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Miro, Figma, and familiarity with prototyping and user-testing processes required.
- Experience facilitating workshops, focus groups, and collaborative design sessions with a wide range of stakeholders required.
