About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Solar Fleet Crew will support the necessary operations of the Solar Team and the Off Fossil Fuels program to further the sustainability initiatives of the Burning Man Project’s Nevada Operations team in Northern Nevada.

This role will be held accountable for servicing, upgrading, and distributing the fleet of 60 solar generator trailers called “Scarabs.”  Including aiding in the building, maintenance, documentation, and installation of solar resources in Gerlach and on Playa. In addition to the physical aspects of the job, this role will be required to learn and effectively use the essential workings of the solar infrastructure to identify and address issues.    
 

This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from July to September, 2026.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


 

Transportation, Installation, and Maintenance (60%)

  • Managing the Maintenance and Data Collection of the “Scarab” solar trailers.
  • Responsibilities include installing upgraded equipment on the trailers and managing the fleet transport and use on Playa.
  • Perform maintenance checks regularly.
  • Apply solvents, sealants, or other protective coatings as required.
  • Assist with the installation of electrical components, equipment, or systems.
  • Measure and prepare areas identified for installation.
  • Build and execute designs created by the Solar Program Manager for portable solar energy systems.
  • Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines. 
  • Assist in setting up temporary power grids for events and operations as needed.
  • Customer service for internal and external partners and customers.
  • Must be comfortable driving a truck, trailer towing, and placement.


 

Documentation and Tracking (30%)

  • Record operational or environmental data daily and input it in the fleet tracker.
  • Communicate concerns regarding safety, interpersonal crew relationships, and other information to the Solar Fleet Project Lead, Solar Program Manager, or the NVO OFF Manager.
  • Know, share, and use the proper communication pathways for escalating personnel issues. 
  • Create and maintain reports as instructed by the Solar Program Manager.
  • Work with the Solar Program Manager to maintain continuity in what and how work is documented.
  • Maintain an awareness of the operation timeline and plan and organize work accordingly.
  • Ensure communications are prompt and professional and that needed discretion is maintained.

 

Other Duties: (10%)

  • Keep regular business hours as advised by the Solar Fleet Project Lead and  Solar Program Manager.
  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Compass and Ranch Protocols.
  • Be familiar with and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 


LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
  • Knowledge sharing – Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes.
  • Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
