The Sr. Designer position exists for the purpose of assisting with all levels of magazine design — creating magazine spreads, scanning photos and artwork, editing magazine galleys, detailed Photoshop work, and preparing print-ready files with direction and guidance from an art director while showing self-reliance and meeting the project deadlines.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Works closely with publication art directors to ensure quality and design integrity standards are met consistent with magazine demographic needs and Focus on the Family principles and standards
• Takes responsibility for quality, completeness, and on-time delivery
• Makes efficient and effective use of computer systems, magazine production software, and digital asset management system
• Works with editors, art directors, and stock photo houses
• Maintains pre-press and proofing workflow
• Works closely with Director of Content Operations to ensure quality and timely delivery of printed pieces
• Consults with computer network technician and commercial printer on desktop hardware and software issues and problems
• Is responsible for packaging magazine files for international delivery and production
• Collaborates with writers and editors throughout the creative process
• Participates in editorial planning sessions and art concept development meetings
• Creates collateral magazine-branded designs for social media, web, and marketing purposes
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
• Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, voice work, film, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family
• Shares new insights with fellow staff designers
• Studies current creative trends in the design area
• Participates in press approvals that may require travel
• Performs other duties as assigned

Personal Characteristics:
• Team and detail oriented; teachable, flexible, and reliable; positive, dependable and takes the initiative; desires to expand and learn new skills
Knowledge/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Graphics Design or equivalent work experience
• 4 or more years professional design experience with an agency, studio, or publisher or equivalent
• In-depth understanding of design fundamentals for a wide range of publication, advertising, collateral, direct marketing, promotional and fund-raising material
• Advanced skill in use of Macintosh DTP equipment, including experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
• Experience with digital photography, color correction, and image processing
• General understanding of printing procedures and processes
• Working knowledge of color management and print production process
• Familiarity with FTP issues, MP3 downloads, audio and video downloading, Adobe Acrobat, and interactiv
