Overview
National Debt Relief (NDR) is seeking a technically fluent and business-savvy Data Science Product Manager to join our Data & AI team. Reporting to the Director of Data Science, this role serves as the connective tissue between the data science team and NDR’s business stakeholders. The ideal candidate is energized by transforming business needs into data science solutions and thrives in the space between machine learning practitioners and decision-makers. You will own the product lifecycle for predictive and prescriptive models, ensuring alignment between the team’s technical capabilities and the company's strategic objectives.
This role demands a deep understanding of the data science lifecycle, experience with machine learning delivery (batch and real-time), and strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. You will collaborate closely with data scientists to evaluate use cases, define data requirements, assess ROI, and ensure roadmap visibility and clarity. You’ll also help shape the future of data science at NDR by driving project documentation, defining KPIs for success, and guiding business partners through the value and limitations of ML-based solutions.
Responsibilities
- Act as the strategic partner and execution lead for the Director of Data Science, co-owning the roadmap and delivery of all data science initiatives.
- Translate complex business challenges into actionable data science projects by gathering requirements, defining objectives, and aligning on expected outcomes.
- Scope and prioritize model development work based on business value, feasibility, effort, and ROI.
- Collaborate with data scientists to evaluate technical approaches, define data inputs, and ensure model feasibility.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the data science team and stakeholders in marketing, operations, product, sales, and executive leadership.
- Own documentation and communication for data science initiatives using Confluence, JIRA, and Miro.
- Drive stakeholder engagement by delivering updates, surfacing trade-offs, and guiding expectations around timelines and results.
- Educate business partners on the capabilities, opportunities, and limitations of supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of model evaluation metrics, monitoring strategies, and success criteria.
- Collaborate with ML/AI Ops, Data Engineering, and Analytics Platform teams to ensure production-readiness and adoption of deployed models.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Bachelors’ degree in a technical discipline (Physics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business, Industrial Engineering or similar) required.
- 5 years of experience in product management, data science consulting, or machine learning implementation.
- Strong understanding of machine learning concepts, model types (supervised, unsupervised), and inference strategies (batch and real-time).
- Familiarity with model health monitoring, accuracy metrics, and ML deployment workflows.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and translate business needs into technical requirements.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills; able to synthesize technical content into actionable insights.
- Hands-on experience with product development tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Miro).
- Technical literacy in Python and SQL sufficient to understand implementation constraints and possibilities.
- Demonstrated success managing the delivery of data science or ML-powered products.
- Experience in financial services or a related industry.
- Experience with DataRobot or comparable MLOps platforms.
- Background in financial services or direct-to-consumer business environments.
- Familiarity with A/B testing, uplift modeling, or experimentation frameworks.
- Experience supporting CX, retention, or revenue optimization use cases.
- Exposure to Snowflake-based data pipelines and architecture.
