Research Assistant (Part-Time) (Term), Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the Vanderbilt School of Engineering (VUSE) seeks a motivated Research Assistant on a part-time and temporary basis to support research in analog/digital circuit design for low-power bio-electronics for wearable and implantable sensors. The successful candidate will assist with circuit assembly, help conduct experiments, and support data collection. This role requires basic laboratory skills and an interest in biomedical applications.
This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research at the intersection of bio-electronics and clinical applications. Applications from candidates with an interest in low-power design and medical technologies are encouraged.
This is a part-time, term position. NOTE: A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesCircuit Assembly & Testing:
- Assist with assembling and testing basic circuit prototypes for biosensors under supervision.
- Help collect data on power consumption for battery-operated devices.
- Support troubleshooting procedures for circuit performance validation.
Firmware & Software Support:
- Assist software engineers by documenting sensor operation and data collection procedures.
- Help test micro-controller and wireless communication modules functionality.
Sensor Testing:
- Support laboratory procedures for testing biosensors according to established protocols.
- Record and organize experimental data and observations.
Data Processing:
- Assist with basic data preparation and organization for analysis.
- Help implement established algorithms for data processing under supervision.
Documentation:
- Maintain organized records of experiments, test results, and laboratory procedures.
- Assist with preparation of materials for presentations and reports.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- No degree required.
- No prior experience required, but 2-4 years of related experience is preferred.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Ability to follow instructions and laboratory protocols accurately is required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Basic knowledge of circuit components and assembly is preferred.
- Familiarity with common laboratory instruments and procedures is preferred.
- Prior laboratory experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with basic programming concepts is preferred.
