Our teams work on impactful investigations that cover migration, climate, conflict and corruption, serving multiple platforms, crossing borders, languages and formats.</p><p>Lighthouse is a non-profit organisation registered in The Netherlands with an ANBI-status. Its core team works from four different continents. </p><p><strong>The Role</strong></p><p>This is the opportunity to make a real difference in the world. We are seeking an enthusiastic finance professional with a hands-on mentality who is highly motivated and committed to helping us achieve our mission.</p><p>You will take the lead in ensuring all accounting records are well maintained, preparing internal and external financial reports for management and donors, and providing financial planning, reporting and accounting support to Lighthouse’s programmes.</p><p><strong>Position in the organisation </strong></p><p>The Finance Manager reports to the Director who is responsible for finance. </p><p><strong>As a Finance Manager you will be responsible for:</strong></p><p><strong>1. Financial planning</strong></p><ul> <li>Lead the quarterly, annual and multi-annual budgeting and forecasting cycles providing support and guidance to the management team and budget holders</li> <li>Support with the preparation of project budgets for donor funding proposals in collaboration with programme teams</li> </ul><p><strong>2. Financial reporting and audit<br/></strong></p><ul> <li>Prepare regular reports for budget holders and the management team</li> <li>Prepare donor financial reports</li> <li>Prepare quarterly VAT returns</li> <li>Prepare the financial statements for audit</li> <li>Lead the annual statutory and donor audit processes, liaising with the auditors</li> </ul><p><strong>3. Monthly accounting processes</strong></p><ul> <li>Ensure that that all accounting transactions are properly recorded in the accounting system</li> <li>Maintain the Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Fixed Assets Register</li> <li>Upload bank transactions and match to invoices</li> <li>Carry out balance sheet reconciliations as required</li> <li>Prepare quarterly salary allocation journals in conjunction with the management team </li> </ul><p><strong>4. Systems, processes and controls</strong></p><ul> <li>Support on the development, establishment and management of the finance system, internal controls and associated processes</li> <li>Support in the development, implementation and maintenance of the organisation’s grant management and financial management planning and reporting systems and tools </li> </ul><p><strong>5. Other responsibilities </strong></p><ul> <li>Participate in gatherings and integrate across the full team, including sharing financial information and budgets where appropriate and explaining accounting, budgeting and reporting processes.</li> <li>Other duties as appropriate and as requested by his/her manager</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li>Qualified accountant or qualified by experience</li> <li>Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAP) and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)</li> <li>Track record of accounting within in a non-profit setting</li> <li>Track record in operational finance, including financial management, financial planning and the interpretation of complex financial information</li> <li>Track record of the preparing statutory accounts</li> <li>High level of knowledge of excel and significant experience of working with accounting packages </li> <li>Highly numerate and financially literate </li> <li>Strong personal and written communication skills</li> <li>Works in a systematic way with good attention to detail</li> <li>Familiarity with Dutch accounting law and procedures is desirable</li> <li>Fluency in English required and competence in Dutch is desirable </li> </ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><ul> <li>Competitive European non-profit salary </li> <li>Fully remote position with flexible working hours </li> <li>Training and travel budget</li> <li>30 days of annual leave, plus national holidays</li> </ul>
