MMSD Substitute Teacher
Salary: $200.58 - 251.58 Daily Wage
Monthly Bonus:
- $100 - 5+ days in a monthly pay period.
- $200 - 7+ days in a monthly pay period at any of our Title 1a schools.

Purpose
Under the supervision of a building principal; the role of a MMSD Substitute Teacher (Guest/Permit Teacher, Certified substitute teacher) is to provide students continuity in the learning process through the implementation of classroom instruction during absences of the regular classroom teacher. Duties include: quickly building connections, managing classroom behavior, interpreting and following lesson plans and creating reports to inform the students’ permanent teacher of their success.
Job Duties

Provide instruction to students, including:
Use of recommended materials
Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
Effective instructional practices and teaching strategies
Various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations
Instructing students individually and in groups, equitably
Provide classroom management
Establishing clear objectives and expectation during class time
Establishing equitable rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
Engage students in meaningful ways to help inform classroom culture and success in learning
Other tasks as assigned by school administration:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree or higher for permit/guest substitute teacher.
Bachelor's degree or higher in education for a certified teacher.
Active Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license or Substitute Teaching license
Can be obtained after onboarding completed
Required to pick up assignments
Experience working with children and youth
Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in t
