GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, maintaining compliance, and providing timely reporting to support leadership decisions. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the CFO, Controller, and other departments.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Ledger Maintenance and Reconciliation: This would include reconciling all balance sheet accounts, researching and resolving aged items, and being prepared to review these monthly with the CFO and Controller.
- Banking Responsibilities: This would include the monthly bank reconciliation for all active bank accounts (including the Viewpoint process) and maintaining key records for audit purposes. Daily bank tasks include running balance reports and distributing them daily, positive pay uploads, and periodic stop pay and check research.
- Business Unit Review (BUR) Reporting: This would include preparing and completing over and under adjustments to the general ledger, adjusting revenue to the Work in Process report, and preparing reports for the CFO’s meeting presentation package. Also included would be reviewing and providing warranty cost reporting for BUR review meetings.
- Calculating, filing, and payment of monthly sales and use taxes. This would include tracking of use tax owed by project, monthly review of billings and receipts for states where applicable, and monthly project accruals. In addition to filing responsibility, the Senior Accountant acts as a resource for operations and estimating tax issues and questions.
- Monthly calculation of current Builder’s Risk premiums based on prior month’s WIP report. In addition to this, the Senior Accountant works closely with the insurance broker to ensure accurate reporting of these premiums as well as resolving inconsistencies monthly.
- The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining and securing all city, county, and state licenses where required. As part of this responsibility, renewing all state licenses to ensure those licenses are available when needed. Perform research and coordinate with the qualifiers regarding continuing education as needed to maintain status.
- Responsible for maintaining the Financial Reporting worksheet, which includes providing incremental financial reports for banks and other reoccurring requests.
- Acts as a training resource about Taxes, Builder’s Risk, and Licensing for newly hired Project Coordinators, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Managers as needed.
- Maintains all financial records and provides support for yearly financial audits.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or project-based industries.
- Proficiency with Vista by Viewpoint (preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
