Job Description
The Director, Business Transformation - Operations, reporting to the VP, Business Transformation, is a senior leadership role accountable for leading business transformation across Operations and other impacted functions, with a primary focus on the successful business adoption of AltaLink’s replacement of its end-of-life Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and related core systems.
This role serves as the senior business leader responsible to define the business requirements, process design decisions, operating model definition, data stewardship, organizational readiness, adoption, and benefits realization. Working closely with peers across the business, Information Services (IS), and external implementation partners, the Director leads disciplined business decision-making and readiness activities across design, business testing, training, cutover readiness, go-live support, stabilization, and adoption, while partnering with IS, which leads technical architecture, system delivery, integrations, environments, and deployment.
As a key member of the Business Transformation leadership team, the Director translates enterprise transformation direction into executable plans, recommendations, and measurable outcomes. The role provides advice to executive leadership and governance forums, supports business cases and investment recommendations, and helps ensure transformation strategies and investments are executed in a practical, defensible manner aligned with AltaLink’s regulated environment and long-term strategic direction. The successful candidate will be based out of Calgary head office and will lead and establish a multi-disciplined team of approximately 10 -20 employees.
Responsibilities
- Lead the cross-functional business team to facilitate the definition of functional business requirements, confirm priorities, and make timely business decisions across the EAM/ERP replacement program and the impacted business functions, working closely with the IS delivery team and implementation partners.
- Lead business decision forums, escalation paths, functional sign-offs, and milestone readiness reviews, and provide structured recommendations and status reporting to the VP, Business Transformation and executive governance.
- Enable appropriate business process design, assess business readiness, and organizational implementation activities required to enable successful implementation of AltaLink’s next-generation EAM, ERP, and related core systems, in partnership with IS-led technical delivery.
- Work with the various business functions leadership, VP, Business Transformation and Executive governance committee to define the future-state operating model, including process ownership, roles and responsibilities, decision rights, service delivery expectations, and cross-functional interfaces required to sustain the transformation.
- Develop and maintain the business transformation roadmap, sequencing decisions, workstreams, and business readiness activities based on value, risk, dependencies, and organizational capacity.
- Lead and coach the business transformation team to support the achievement of business objectives, with a focus on enhancing talent and enabling high performance.
- Support managers to develop their teams, work practices, processes, technology applications, and employee engagement.
- Lead and facilitate business transition planning from current-state processes and ways of working to the future-state operating model and supporting systems.
- Define and implement the organizational, cultural, process, and capability changes required to improve business performance and sustain new ways of working.
- Lead the establishment of business ownership for master data management (MDM), data quality standards, stewardship, migration readiness, and governance processes across impacted functions.
- Identify and represent business priorities, decisions, and readiness requirements in interactions with software vendors, system integrators, and external advisory partners, while partnering with IS on technical scope and delivery.
- Ensure business readiness across business testing, user acceptance, training, cutover readiness, go-live support, hypercare (warranty), and stabilization, in coordination with IS-led technical testing and deployment activities.
- Coordinate with Information Services to provide integrated readiness and release planning.
- Define and track transformation success measures, including adoption indicators, operational KPIs, and business benefits, and provide clear reporting to executive leadership.
- Support development of business cases, investment recommendations, resource plans, and phased team ramp-up and backfill strategies to enable execution.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate business transformation risks, cross-functional impacts, and readiness gaps, and lead escalation and resolution.
- Provide clear, credible, and concise updates, recommendations, and decision support to executive leadership and governance forums, and maintain strong relationships with leaders and front-line teams to understand operational needs and adoption challenges.
- Foster a high-accountability leadership culture grounded in respect, collaboration, transparency, continuous improvement, and performance, and build the business transformation capability required to sustain change and develop future leaders.
- Collaborate with affiliated business platforms within Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) to share learnings, align where appropriate, and support AltaLink’s transformation objectives.
- Ensure business transformation plans and investments reflect AltaLink’s regulated environment and cost-recovery mechanisms through disciplined planning, transparent documentation, and credible execution.
- As required, support regulatory filings through witnessing in regulatory proceedings or hearings for the business.
- Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
