Environmental Health & Safety Technician, Long Beach

Vast is looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Technician, reporting to the Environmental Health & Safety Manager, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.
This will be a full-time (non-exempt) position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Overseeing compliance with regulatory mandates from OSHA, RCRA, EPA, SCAQMD, DOT, DTSC, and CUPA
- Collaborate daily with engineers and technicians to ensure our manufacturing facility aligns with production objectives while meeting environmental, health, and safety targets
- Duties encompass executing tasks related to the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste under RCRA regulations
- Ensuring proper waste storage according to its classification is a core aspect of their role
- They maintain meticulous records, including 90-day hazardous waste drum logs, sign-in sheets for hazardous waste, and logs for VOC Solvent usage
- EHS Technicians meticulously conducts all mandated inspections for hazardous waste and hazardous material storage areas
- EHS Technicians are responsible for procuring and maintaining an adequate supply of spill-related equipment, empty drums, and secondary containment measures, to ensure safe handling and proper disposal of hazardous waste
- Conduct comprehensive audits for environmental compliance and due diligence
- Management of hazardous materials includes ensuring proper labeling and storage within designated areas.
- Actively engaged in boots-on-the-ground safety oversight, identifying and rectifying workplace hazards and unsafe conditions
- Active participation in the implementation and adherence to site-specific safety policies is a key responsibility
- Collaboration with the EHS Specialist, and EHS Manager is crucial for developing and implementing new safety policies when necessary
- Department-specific safety surveys are conducted using inspection forms to ensure employees follow safe work practices, including the proper use of PPE
- Immediate notification and corrective actions are taken in response to any identified unsafe conditions throughout the site
- Conduct inspections of various areas, including hazardous waste accumulation and storage, universal waste storage, eye wash/shower stations, outdoor equipment storm water collection areas, weekly safety inspections, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting/exits, self-contained breathing apparatus, fall protection equipment, lifting straps, and slings
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- 2+ years of experience implementing and overseeing aspects related to an environmental, health and safety program
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Proven background in implementing and formulating health and safety plans and policies
- Hands-on involvement with emergency response teams in incidents involving both hazardous and non-hazardous material releases into the air, soil, and water
- Expertise in overseeing Hazardous Waste storage and satellite accumulation areas
- Extensive experience in conducting on-site safety walks
- Proficiency in utilizing Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications (including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)
- Demonstrated commitment to hands-on work and meticulous attention to detail, either through academic pursuits or professional experiences
- Adept at managing multiple tasks, adapting to changing priorities, and successfully completing projects with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working within a construction or industrial setting
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with technicians and engineers
- Strong organizational abilities and excellent communication skills are a fundamental requirement
