PURPOSE
The Assistant Controller is responsible for the completion and maintenance of general ledgers and financial reports. This role is familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. The position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, while also performing a variety of complicated tasks. The role may lead and direct the work of others and may report to an executive or a manager. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected in this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Administer Balance Sheet Reconciliation Certification Program
• Document and maintain all internal controls for Financial Management process flow
• Risk management of Trade Accounts Receivable, coordinate efforts with National Credit Manager
• Financial management projects as assigned by the controller
• External Financial Reporting including Parent Company J-Form and External Audit/Review
• Oversee preparation of all analytical schedules required for External Audit and Review
• Oversee all governmental reporting
• Secondary support on Infinium Order Processing (billing) and Accounts Receivable modules and related modules (Cross Applications, Journal Processor) for both SMC-USA and SMC-Canada
• Primary support for Infinium Global Taxation module for both SMC-USA and SMC-Canada
• Daily and Monthly Sales/Use Tax - oversee Assessment, Reporting, Reconciliation, and Compliance; sign all returns; serve as Audit Liaison
• Annual Federal, State/Provincial, and Local Income Tax Return - oversee Client Assistance Preparation; review all returns for tax compliance and comparability to audit/review estimates
• Annual Personal Property Tax - oversee Client Assistance Preparation; maintain the relationship with professional services firm; serve as Audit Liaison
• Annual Expatriate Income Tax - oversee taxable fringe benefits Client Assistance Preparation and Quarterly Estimated Payments; review and sign all returns as Power of Attorney
• Oversee all Annual Business Licensing and Registration Requirements
• Deferred Tax asset/liability calculations and projections
• Review and approve all balance sheet reconciliations
• Review and approve all general ledger journal entries
• Ensure accurate and timely posting to General Ledger for all subsidiary journals
• Ensure accurate and timely posting of all Cost Allocations to General Ledger
• Ensure accurate and timely closing of the corporate records at month end
• Reporting to, and questions from, the field on department expense actual and related correspondence
• Oversee the Intercompany Accounting and Property and Equipment Accounting functions
All other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Occasionally lifting of “bankers’ boxes” with varying weights up to 50 pounds
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required
• 7-10 years of accounting experience required; 3-5 years of public accounting experience is preferred
• CPA designation is preferred
• Experience with fortune 500 companies through audit or financial management is preferred
• Manufacturing experience is a plus
