General Notes

This is a grant-funded position and can be assigned at 10-20 hours per week. Reassignment will be based upon performance, progress toward research goals and continuation of funding. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Graduate student must be enrolled in at least 9 enrollment hours for Fall and/or Spring semester(s):

  • Fall: 8/16 – 12/31

  • Spring: 1/1 – 5/15

Purpose

The Texas Institute for Child & Family Wellbeing (TXICFW) is a team of researchers and practitioners developing and refining knowledge to improve how systems interact with children and families. Each year, TXICFW is responsible for conducting the Child Care Market Rate Survey, a comprehensive statewide assessment that provides up-to-date data on childcare rates in Texas. The insights gained from this survey are instrumental for local workforce development boards in determining appropriate child care subsidy rates. The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) will assist in gathering accurate and current data from child care providers across the state as well as support other funded projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct phone interviews with Texas childcare providers.

  • Track and maintain participant database.

  • Assist team in reviewing, editing and translating study materials and reports. Document and update study process. Attend weekly team meetings.

  • Other research opportunities & duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

The graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin must be enrolled in at least 9 enrollment hours. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational and communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to use discretion when working with confidential and sensitive information. Must be dependable and reliable. Values the contributions of others in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual in Vietnamese or Spanish - Fluency. Research background or familiarity and interest in quantitative and qualitative research methods. Prior experience working at a call center, over the phone and/or at a childcare facility.

Salary Range

$44,708 Annual (20 hrs/wk - Prorated: $22,354 or 10 hrs/wk - Prorated: $11,177)

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Work Shift

  • M-F, Flexible between 8am-6pm
