A Day in the Life

The System Engineering Technical lead (Sr Prin. Systems Engineer), is a highly talented and technical leader who plays a critical role in execution of our major Diabetes programs and projects. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of systems engineering, electromechanical systems, embedded and application software development as well as excellent analytical and communication skills. 


The Medtronic Diabetes Operating Unit is on a mission to be best in class in both our major portfolio of products (Our multiple daily injection (MDI) solutions and our Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) algorithms and solutions). Our goal is to give people with Diabetes a choice in the treatment approach that is right for them and to meet them where they are. To that end, we have a long list of exciting and high priority programs . The system engineering technical leader will have the critical role of cross functional leadership in identifying and mitigating risks, integrating hardware, software and cloud to come up with best therapy and user experience for users. They will be providing high level integration plans and overseeing the technical aspects of the program from concept phase to post commercialization.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Overall domain technical leadership and oversight for the project ensuring technical rigor

  • Owns VOX (R&D portion),  technical feasibility assessment & concept selection, Technical risk register and risk burn down activities (including phased systems/product/component characterization testing to retire risk).

  • Accountable for integration plan of the system and/or products, working cross-functionally to develop and maintain the integrated technical product development plan (working closely with PMO).

  • Work with development functions and sub-system leads to complete (e.g. ensure accuracy and technical rigor of) R&D deliverables of the PDP overcoming obstacles and arbitrating on escalated design issues.

  • Accountable for design (Design Freeze), V&V Readiness of the design, and design transfer

  • Provide technical oversight for initial launch of the product, consult on issues/FCAs arising from early launch and transfer to sustaining team. 

  • Mentors the systems engineering designers and architects to grow into multi-dimensional experts (HW, SW, Cloud, Security, etc)

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Or, advanced degree and 8+ years of relevant experience

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
