Job Description

Performs shipping and receiving duties and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments.  Performs material handling and inventory management duties for assigned production lines and verifies accuracy of inventory levels through various means including cycle counting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Orders raw materials (MRP and reorder point).
  • Compares identifying information and counts or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, records shortages.  Coordinates with purchasing to rectify damages and shortages.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons for shipment.
  • Picks and examines outgoing shipment to ensure shipments meets specifications.
  • Operates forklift, pallet truck, and dolly to move materials and shipments.
  • Calls and loads trucks.
  • Maintains minimum inventory levels and verifies accuracy through cycle counting.
  • Stages assigned production lines.
  • Transfers materials from location to location.
  • Accumulates scrap, sorts and prepares it for pick-up.  Accumulates recyclables and arranges for proper disposal.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must pass company certification program to safely operate forklift, pallet truck and dolly to move material and shipments.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to communicate effectively with other member of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee frequently (approximately two-thirds of the shift) is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, and crouch.  While standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching, the employee must frequently lift and transfer between 25 and 50 pounds (two-thirds of the shift).  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move between 50 and 100 pounds (up to one-third of the shift).  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
