Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Services (MSS)

Brigham Young University is seeking an experienced, student-centered Assistant Director of Multicultural Student Services (MSS) to help advance the mission of BYU by supporting the academic success, personal development, and overall well-being of multicultural students. This leadership role provides strategic direction for student advisement initiatives, supervises professional staff, and develops programs that foster student growth, engagement, and success. If you are passionate about mentoring students, developing teams, and creating meaningful educational experiences, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

What you'll do in this position:

• Assist the MSS Director in leading, mentoring, and developing a team of full-time advisors and student employees through coaching, performance management, and professional development.

• Provide individualized academic, financial, career, and personal advisement to multicultural students using student development best practices.

• Build strong relationships with students, helping them navigate university resources, develop graduation plans, and achieve their educational goals.

• Plan, implement, and assess student initiatives and educational programs that promote student success and engagement.

• Collaborate with campus partners to connect students with critical university services and create a seamless support experience.

• Manage program budgets, assess learning outcomes, and use data to continuously improve programs and services.

• Support cultural clubs and student organizations while increasing the visibility and impact of Multicultural Student Services across campus.

• Assist the Director in advancing departmental goals, strategic initiatives, and the mission of MSS and BYU.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

• A firm commitment to the mission of BYU and the Aims of a BYU Education.

• A master's degree in Student Affairs, Academic Advising, Higher Education, Counseling, Educational Leadership, Social Work, Organizational Behavior, Recreation Management, or a related field.

• At least two years of directly related Student Affairs experience.

• Three years of student management experience.

• Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.

• Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong analytical and technology skills, including experience using databases and Microsoft Office applications.

• Sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• The ability to work collaboratively with diverse campus partners while supporting students from a variety of backgrounds.

Preferred

• A master's or doctoral degree in a related field.

• Additional experience in higher education leadership and student affairs.

• Experience supervising professional staff.

• Experience managing multicultural student programs and initiatives.

• Budget management experience for student programs or events.

• A national graduate certificate in Academic Advising.
