Role

As Senior Product Counsel, you will have a broad range of responsibilities providing legal guidance on product and feature development. You will be the primary legal partner to our Product teams and will help them develop new offerings while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also advise all business units that support our product suite, including partnership, risk, capital markets, engineering and servicing teams.

You are highly organized, creative, and motivated.  You have experience with lending or merchant cash advance products, and have familiarity with related capital markets operations.  You are knowledgeable in various federal regulations that affect our product, including fair lending laws.  You are able to research and master complex legal topics and communicate them to non-lawyers in clear language. You can negotiate a complex contract, draft terms of service, manage relationships with Pipe’s bank and commercial partners.

Responsibilities 

• Provide guidance to product and engineering teams on issues related to products and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle 
• Develop trusted relationship with business partners and stay informed on key product developments 
• Draft and negotiate partnership agreements affecting your products and services 
• Draft terms of use, product policies, and product disclosures 
• Actively cultivate creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments and customer experiences 
• Review proposed product offerings, programs, and initiatives to spot legal issues and advise business on laws, regulations, and industry expectations
• Assist on capital markets operations affecting our product 
• Collaborate with outside counsel and synthesize legal advice for business team 

Qualifications

• 7+ years of combined, relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, or in-house legal departments
• Experience advising on lending/MCA products, including relating to fair lending laws, bank partnerships, and state licensing regulations
• Familiarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space 
• Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills 
• A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active membership in at least one state bar
