COMPENSATION INFORMATION 
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation, there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process. 

  • Engineer Pay Range: $108,000 - $125,000 
  • Engineer II Range: $125,000 - $137,000 

Join our team as an Engineer on the Market Services and Design teams! 

Engineers on the Market Services and Market Design teams play a critical role in the development, analysis, and implementation of organized electricity market designs supporting SPP’s Markets+ initiative. This role is responsible for analyzing market design concepts, evaluating the impacts of design modifications, and supporting stakeholder-driven market evolution through data-driven analysis, testing, and collaboration. 

This position works closely with internal departments—including Markets, Operations, Legal, Regulatory, and Settlements, as well as external stakeholders such as market participants, vendors, FERC, and RTOs/ISOs. The Senior Market Design Engineer leads and facilitates discussions across multiple working groups, supports regulatory filings, and ensures implemented software and processes align with approved market design. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Analyze and develop organized electricity market designs and evaluate the impacts of market design changes. 
  • Lead and support Markets+ working groups and facilitate market design changes through the stakeholder process. 
  • Perform market analysis, develop market metrics, and create reports to identify and resolve market issues. 
  • Test and validate market functionality to ensure alignment with intended design and outcomes. 
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Markets, Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements,) to ensure consistent implementation of market design. 
  • Coordinate with market participants, vendors, FERC, and RTOs/ISOs on market policy and design. 
  • Support regulatory filings by providing data, analysis, and drafting technical materials. 
  • Research and benchmark market designs from other RTOs/ISOs and Western Market Initiatives. 
  • Document analyses and present findings to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Develop training materials and mentor junior staff members 

 To be successful we're looking for: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:  
    • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation), 
    • Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering fieldfield, and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering 
  • Sr Engineer - Five (5) years of relevant Engineering experience; Professional Engineer License may satisfy one year of experience requirement.
