A Day in the Life
The Global Calibration Services team within Global Quality Excellence provides calibration and metrology services that support research, development, manufacturing, and quality operations across Medtronic. The Electrical Metrology Laboratory is responsible for maintaining measurement traceability, calibration compliance, and technical expertise for a broad range of test, inspection, and measurement equipment used throughout the organization.This position is based in Mounds View, Minnesota and requires onsite presence five days per week. Limited local travel may be required to support calibration activities at nearby Medtronic facilities.
As an Electronic Calibration / Metrology Technician III, you will perform advanced calibration, measurement, troubleshooting, and technical support activities for electrical test, inspection, and measurement equipment. This role supports laboratory and on-site calibration services, contributes to calibration procedure development, and partners with engineers, technicians, and equipment owners to ensure measurement accuracy, traceability, and compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform calibrations and measurements using maintained reference standards to ensure traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the International System of Units (SI).
Calibrate, evaluate, and document results for electrical test, inspection, and measurement equipment, including both commercial and custom-built test systems.
Record calibration data using approved templates and systems, and initiate Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) or Nonconformance (NC) documentation when required.
Provide laboratory and on-site calibration support for equipment that cannot be relocated due to size, sensitivity, or operational constraints.
Develop, revise, and maintain calibration procedures using manufacturer specifications, laboratory methods, system requirements, and approved documentation.
Troubleshoot, inspect, adjust, and repair test and measurement equipment to support ongoing operations and project needs.
Partner with engineers, technicians, and equipment owners to coordinate calibration activities and provide guidance regarding measurement equipment selection and use.
Mentor less experienced technicians and support adherence to established metrology procedures and quality requirements.
Required Qualifications
Requires 3+ years of relevant technical experience, which may include a combination of practical experience and applicable training, education, or certification.
Experience performing calibration, measurement, troubleshooting, maintenance, or repair activities on electrical test, inspection, and measurement equipment.
Experience documenting technical work using controlled procedures, calibration records, databases, or quality systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, procedures, equipment manuals, and measurement requirements.
Ability to work onsite in Mounds View, Minnesota and travel locally as needed to support calibration activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree, technical diploma, or military training in electronics, metrology, calibration technology, precision measurement, or instrumentation.
American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Calibration Technician certification.
Knowledge of measurement uncertainty, measurement traceability, Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance investigations.
Experience working within regulated industries, including medical device, pharmaceutical, aerospace, or other quality-regulated manufacturing environments, with familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, ISO 10012, or ISO/IEC 17025.
Experience with calibration management software, statistical analysis tools, Microsoft Excel template development and validation, and electrical measurement disciplines including voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, inductance, frequency, power, and energ
