Job Description:

The Group Risk Specialist provides a comprehensive and diverse range of risk management expertise to business leaders. Leads and supports the implementation of appropriate risk frameworks and leading related management activities to mitigate enterprise and/or business-wide risk exposures for key business segment of the Bank or functional area. May provide oversight, commentary, and recommendations based on overall strategy and industry best practices.

The Regulatory Engagement & Strategic Planning team supports the management and overall lifecycle of internal and external exams impacting the 2nd line Risk Management functions (e.g., Credit Risk, Enterprise & Operational Risk, Market & Liquidity Risk, Compliance, and Financial Crimes Risk Management) as well as provides strategic planning analysis, typically ad-hoc and sensitive in nature, for the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). 

 

As part the Regulatory Engagement mandate, the team is responsible for the development and implementation of an Exam Management Center of Excellence for Risk Management to support the 2nd line Risk Management function through regulatory exams and internal audits. Key responsibilities by area are noted below: 

 

Regulatory Engagement: 

  • Design, build, and implement an end-to-end exam management process for Risk Management, including an Exam Management Center of Excellence. 
  • Provide oversight, planning, and management of exams by identifying stakeholders, coordinating and tracking requests, facilitating planning and status meetings, and escalating concerns appropriately. 
  • Act as a liaison for relationships with the 1st line Exam Management teams, the Regulatory Relations and Government Affairs team, and regulatory agencies. 

Strategic Planning: 

  • Conduct ad hoc strategic analyses (e.g., mergers & acquisitions, industry deep dives). 
  • Perform various strategic initiatives (e.g., gap assessments, design and implement process enhancements). 
  • Support executive/board readiness (e.g., SET dashboards/updates, resource and budget

Depth & Scope:

  • Highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial knowledge/expertise in a complex field and knowledge of broader related areas
  • Integrates knowledge of the enterprise sub-function’s or business line’s overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations
  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and the industry environment, recommends course of action and best practices to improve products, processes or services
  • Acts as a technical expert/lead integrating cross-function understanding within their own field of specialty; may manage team(s) of related specialists
  • Leads cross-functional teams or projects with significant resource requirements, risk and/or complexity
