DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a Communications Coordinator with 0 to 4 years of experience to join our team. This role will involve contributing to marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives, including communications planning, and executing marketing communications programs. Working closely with the communications manager and other Michael Baker staff the communications specialist will support the expansion of risk communications and outreach capacity within the Emergency Management and Response Office.
Responsibilities include supporting the development of marketing plans and campaigns for client and EMR needs and assisting in the creation of communications content, talking points and speeches, presentations, fact sheets, advertisements, collateral materials, videos, and email marketing. The role will involve impactful writing and targeted strategy to support marketing and business goals. The communications specialist will also support project management efforts and advance client and company objectives.
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the EMR Office based in Alexandria, Virginia, supporting various contracts issued by FEMA or other agencies. Attention to detail, self-starting abilities, quick, constant learning, and the capacity to manage short-term and long-term deadlines and goals are essential. Effective time management and focusing on project objectives are key aspects of this role. The communications specialist should approach tasks with a proactive, professional, and creative mindset, demonstrating effective listening skills and clear communication in both written and oral presentations.
The role will involve contributing to communications initiatives aimed at enhancing the ability to recover faster and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters such as flooding, earthquakes, and wildfires, as well as addressing the impacts of climate change. MBI supports FEMA’s Production and Technical Services (PTS) contract, providing engineering and public outreach support to the Risk MAP program’s efforts to map floodplains in FEMA Regions 1, 2, 3, and 5. Additionally, the communications specialist will contribute to the groundbreaking nationwide Community Engagement and Risk Communications (CERC) contract, aimed at building a more robust, customer-centered engagement program nationwide to enhance flood risk data development and promote resilience. Work on other contracts and in support of EMR is also expected.
Due to contract requirements, this will be a contingent hire dependent upon the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 0-4 years of experience in marketing and communications. Previous experience with risk communications and prior work with FEMA is a plus.
- Four-year bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications or related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- Due to contract requirements, being a U.S. Citizen and/or the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive communicator, and problem-solver.
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ownership and accountability for work.
- Capability to work in a dynamic environment, including a demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Must be able to build rapport and establish positive relationships with existing and prospective Michael Baker International clients to ensure client-focused performance.
- Solid work ethic and the drive to be an effective member of the company and professional community.

- Experience working with FEMA
- Training coordination experience.
- Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 25%)
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $66,204 to $95,583. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
