Job Summary & Location
The Petroleum Sales Manager leads net-new business development efforts and aggressively grows our market share within the North American petroleum and convenience store channel. The ideal candidate demonstrates a growth mindset and is passionate about creating new opportunities, winning strategic accounts, and delivering strong, measurable sales performance.
The Petroleum Sales Manager is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and closing business with new national petroleum chains, regional operators, and strategic channel partners. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, enjoys customer-facing selling, and is motivated by winning new business and scaling revenue in a competitive market.
This role works remotely (from the U.S.) and travels based on business needs (50% - 70%).
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Driving New Business Acquisition by proactively identifying and pursuing new customers, accounts, and partnerships in the petroleum vertical, with a strong focus on major national and regional petroleum retailers, distributors, and C-store chains.
- Building Strategic Relationships to develop and deepen relationships with key decision-makers at target accounts, understanding their needs, and positioning Acuity Brands’ solutions as the best fit. Create compelling value propositions and close multi-site and enterprise-level deals.
- Market Expansion & Channel Development by penetrating underserved regions and opening new sales territories.
- Scouting and activating new agency and distributor partnerships, onboarding them to establish speed-to-revenue in key markets rapidly.
- Sales Execution & Pipeline Management by managing a robust sales pipeline with a focus on delivering predictable, quarterly revenue performance.
- Using CRM and reporting tools to track leads, forecast deals, and drive accountability.
- Voice of the Customer & Industry Insights to engage directly with end-users, contractors, and channel influencers to gather market intelligence, customer pain points, and competitive positioning.
- Report insights back to product and marketing teams.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in a sales growth or business development role within the lighting, electrical, or industrial sectors is required.
- Experience in the petroleum market is a strong plus.
- Proven success in building new business and consistently exceeding quota in a complex, solution-oriented sales environment is required.
- A strong executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels—ranging from the boardroom to the field is required.
- An entrepreneurial spirit characterized by a bias for action, creative problem-solving, and persistence in the face of obstacles is required.
- Demonstrated business acumen, negotiating and closing multimillion-dollar deals, is required.
- Availability to travel extensively (50–70%) to meet with prospects, partners, and key accounts across North America is required.
