What’s the role? 
Our Legal Assistant will be responsible for handling all phases of pursuing deficiency balances on charged-off accounts through litigation, including civil lawsuits and referral to outside attorney firms for such litigation. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume litigation environment in the legal field of consumer debt collection.

What you’ll do as our Legal Assistant? 

• Prepare legal documents, including, but not limited to, complaints, default judgment packages, writs of execution, wage garnishments, and bank levies.
• Maintain and update the civil litigation court calendar.
• Work closely with attorneys, their firms, and court personnel.
• Working knowledge of electronic filing procedures for state courts.
• Act as liaison between Westlake and its affiliates, including Consumer Litigation vendors.
• Demonstrate ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external contacts.

 

Qualities we look for in our Legal Assistant

• College degree or equivalent work experience (preferred)
• ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate preferred
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Initiative, ability to take direction, and strong interpersonal skills
• Must have a working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Essential Forms

What’s the expected pay for this role?

• $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
• The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire and will be dependent on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure when applicable.
