This division management position is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and administrative oversight to the Municipal Courts Violations Bureau Division. This position oversees and directs staff that includes Judicial Specialists, the Court Services Supervisor, and other assigned personnel.  Provide leadership and direction to staff as well as develop and implement goals, policies and procedures for the Violations Bureau Division.  Position maintains court records and statistical information for department.  Serves as a member of the Municipal Court senior management team, collaborates with the Presiding Judge, Court Administrator, and other division managers on strategy and policy to ensure that the City’s mission and core values are incorporated into operational activities and services. Advises Court Administrator of division status and conditions.

  • Coordinates and manages the organization, staffing, operational activities, and services of the Violations Bureau. Supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff; coordinates and makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination or advancement of employees. Schedules employees, assigns work, and monitors’ progress.
  • Guides, trains, and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties and professional growth. Writes probationary and annual reviews. Provides regular feedback. Explores opportunities and develops strategies for professional growth. Establishes pay increases. Administers disciplinary action as warranted. Handles problems within the division.
  • Attends meetings and trainings as required.
  • Evaluates the operation of the violation’s bureau, as well as other areas of the municipal court, and recommends improvements. Recommends and assists in the development and implementation of goals and objectives; implements approved policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and manages the Violations Bureau budget.
  • Responsible for overseeing all funds balanced and deposited by staff including the general fund and bond account. Monitors internal control of court monies and accounts. Troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Oversees electronic conviction reporting with the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Ensures accuracy of computer programs and resolves problems. Oversees coordination of appeals, interpreters, courtrooms, and customer service processes.
  • Prepares statistical reports for judges, court administration, other agencies, and the public.
  • Works with other jurisdictions and task forces to implement justice standards and strategies.
  • Interprets and advises external and internal contacts on court process, proceedings, rulings, regulations, recommendations, terms and conditions, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: Receives minimal supervision from the Court Administrator.

Supervision Exercised: Provides direct supervision to Judicial Specialists and the Court Services Supervisor. Provides management guidance to the entire division.
