What we need:
Mohawk is looking for a Director – Indirect Purchasing who can do more for Mohawk’s Flooring North America brands.
This position will manage Indirect Category Procurement and Sourcing for our Flooring – North America group. It includes both the tactical Procure-to-pay process and the Strategic Sourcing process. This position will be responsible for managing a team of sourcing analysts, specialists, and managers. Other key responsibilities include meeting group KPIs, monitoring supplier performance levels (cost, delivery, quality, service levels), implementing process improvements, and ultimately ensuring that quality materials and services are purchased to support our manufacturing facilities in a timely fashion at competitive total cost.
What you’ll do:
- Prioritize, research, and execute Category Strategies according to our Strategic Sourcing process, gaining stakeholder support, and utilizing RFQs/RFPs, targeted negotiation, etc. to lower total cost, reduce inventory/working capital levels, bring supplier innovation, etc.
- Manages supplier relationships and contract compliance while maintaining highest code of ethics and conduct.
- Oversees cradle-to-grave process from intent to purchase, new supplier on-boarding, performance, and supplier exit. Tracks performance using dashboards for quality, delivery, service, and cost.
- Achieve departmental objectives by measurement of KPIs, including cost savings and avoidance, process automation, Purchase spends compliance (minimize tail-spend), etc.
- Develop and implement initiatives to aggregate spend across all Mohawk Business Units to drive down cost and reduce number of suppliers. Leverage enterprise-wide spending, resources, and champion best practices.
- Work with Manufacturing, Maintenance and Engineering, and R&D to develop product specifications and source substitute and new materials.
- Identify and evaluate new/increased sources of supply that support plant expansions, new products, and sustainability objectives.
- Evaluate automation opportunities, using SAP and other tools available (Smartsheet, PowerBI, JotForm’s, RPA, etc).
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or Engineering. NAPM or CPM certification desired.
- Certification in Six Sigma, TQM, TCO, Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies preferred.
- 6+ years of purchasing/supply chain experience with at least 4 years at the management level.
- Expertise in world class procurement operations and migration there to. Capable of driving change while maintaining positive internal relations.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted purchasing practices, contract negotiation, related laws, and regulations.
- Workflow and process optimization skills.
- Supplier scorecard techniques that drive vendor management

- Track record of project leadership including partnership/teambuilding with interdependent functions in Operations, R&D, PD, Engineering and Finance. Compliance systems with stakeholder endorsement.
- ERP system knowledge with respect to Procure-To-Pay function. SAP knowledge and skills are a plus.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communications skills; ability to effectively exercise tact, discretion, judgment, and diplomacy when interacting and/or negotiating with internal and external customers, and senior management, etc.
- Ability to communicate with others in antagonistic situations using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
- Ability to manage situations to which there has been no prior exposure or for which no clear road map exists.
- Ability and willingness to accept responsibility, willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions, including to stimulate, market and sell new ideas within the organization.
